Would you mind sharing your views on backpacking? 👀

Take all of this with a grain of salt because I'm mostly just bothered by backpacking content on Instagram.

I think the concept is fine. I'd actually like to do some backpacking some time.

But backpacking content, as well as most overland* content, always has a really weird vibe. It almost feels like cosplaying poverty if you know what I mean??

It's almost always young people from the so called "West" and almost always they're somewhere in South or Southeast Asia. The most popular backpacking destinations I'm seeing at the moment are Bali (exclusively that part of Indonesia for some reason), Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. The algorithm has recently also started showing me content from Pakistan, India and Afghanistan.

Since flights to these destinations are usually quite expensive, and many of these people stay abroad long enough that they might need a visa and that accommodation and food would also add up, it can be safely assumed these people have a certain amount of financial stability. Some of them are full time influencers too.

And while travelling with a backpack instead of a suitcase makes sense, and while you want to have an "authentic" experience, the vibe on those videos is often sooooo weird.

They're always like "I just spent 45h standing in a cramped bus without AC because it was only $1. I'm sleeping on the floor of this abandoned building that costs me $4 a night. I only carry 2 t-shirts with me, can't find a laundromat and I'm travelling for 3 months. Yesterday I got scammed and got food poisoning."

And I'm like why are you doing this? Is it really more "authentic" just because it's a foreign country? You can find the same uncomfortable situations and people who live like that all the time in your home country, but when you're abroad it's cool and authentic and #humbling #eatpraylove. Meanwhile there's also people in that same country you're backpacking through who, like, have a comparable standard of living you're used to. Your holiday doesn't have to be luxury resorts but it also doesn't have to be absolutely god awful.

And of course there's also the factor of adrenaline and stepping out of your comfort zone but with these videos it seems like they're almost glamorising having an awful time in an "exotic" country because that's what it's supposed to be like? I guess?

Idk I feel like I should get the opinion of someone living in one of those backpacking hotspots to make sure I'm not just getting annoyed at nothing but I think the vibe is off.

*overland content as in "travelling from XY to YZ without flying - Day 420" type videos. They're often interesting and I follow some of those people and I actually have some ideas for cool overland or long distance train trips but some of the accounts also have a weird vibe. Most of the ones I saw were men and they're like hitchhiking through some desert somewhere and I'm like oh this would feel so unsafe to me as someone perceived female. And obviously they also make lots of content where you know they have lots money because they've been travelling for several months but it has that same fake low budget backpacker vibe.

I hope this makes sense. I'm not sure it does.

The bus was equipped with reading facilities, separate sleeping bunks for everyone, and fan-operated heaters.

There was a kitchen with all equipment and amenities.

There was a forward observation lounge on the upper deck of the later version of the bus.

The bus provided radio and music system for parties. It had time to spend at major tourist destinations along the way, including Banaras and the Taj Mahal on the banks of the Ganges.

Shopping breaks were organized in Salzburg, Vienna, Istanbul, Kabul and Tehran.

Why is Mount Kailash a part of China?

Mount Kailash is one of the holiest places in the world for Hindus. It is the abode of Lord Shiva and it is said that visiting Mount Kailash is enough to wash away all the sins of even previous births.

A lot of the devotees have the question Where is Mount Kailash located?, the answer to Kailash Parvat Location is that Kailash Parvat is not exactly a part of China but Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake is situated in Tibet, which is under the administrative rule of China. 

The truth is that Mount of Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, Tibet were never a part of India. In the past few centuries too, it was never a part of any major Indian empire. Kailash was part of Nepal a long time back and was ruled by a Nepali King. Significance of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, Tibet.

The Hindu religion puts a lot of reverence on Lord Shiva, whom it considers to be the powerful, the strong and the willful. Hindus believe that Lord Shiva resides in Mount Kailash in a state of meditation. He lives there along with his divine consort, Parvati. Mount Kailash is considered to be the Shiva Temple in China.

It is considered that Lake Mansarovar tibet first originated in the mind of Lord Brahma, after which it came into physical existence. The Manasarovar Lake is said to be a place where Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva swim as swans during ‘Brahma Muhurta’ or the period of time just before dawn. This is a time period which is considered extremely auspicious in Hindu tradition.

If a devotee can do a ‘parikrama’ of Mount Kailash and take a dip in the holy waters of Lake Mansarovar Tibet, it is believed that all the sins he committed in his past 100 lives will be absolved and he will be a new man. 

Going on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Most Hindus wish to go on the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra at least once in their lifetimes considering how highly revered it is. Devotees from all over the world visit this Shiva temple in China and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. If you are interested in knowing the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra cost, then you will be happy to know that different price points are available to suit the demands of every pocket.

Here are a few things to know about it

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra cost: The Yatra can be done via 3 to 4 routes including 2 routes that are conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs. The 2 routes conducted by the government will cost you between Rs 1,80,00 and Rs 2,50,00. There are 3 other routes available that are conducted by private tour operators, and they are either done via Lhasa, or via Kyirong border.

Trekking distance: How much trekking one has to do while on a trip is something a lot of people are worried about. Well, the Lipulekh pass route will have you trek approximately 200 km and will cost around Rs 1,80,000. The Nathu La pass route has only 40 km trekking and the rest of the journey is done by train or bus. It costs around Rs 2,50,000. Both of these routes have a selection procedure that is done by lucky draw and there will be a stringent medical check-up as well. On the other hand, if you were to choose a private tour operator such as Trip To Temples, the trekking distance will be incomparable. The Nepal route is the one that is far more convenient for pilgrims. There is a helicopter route that starts from Lucknow and takes between 5 and 11 days. The overland route from Kathmandu will take around 14 days. If time and convenience is the top-post priority, then the Nepal route is the best choice. The Nepal route is cost effective too. There is no lucky draw and since lesser trekking is involved, the medical procedure is lenient.

Best time to go: The best time to go on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is between the months of May and September.

Age restrictions: This is not a pilgrimage for small children. If the Nepal route is considered, people between the ages of 10 and 70 only are allowed to go; while the GOI route only takes travelers between the ages of 18 and 70 years considering the hazardousness of the destination.

Visa requirement: As Mount Kailash is under the administrative authority of China, one will need a passport and Visa to travel there. It is, however, a Group Staple / VISA. First, a permit gets issued and then VISA is applied for. Nepal does stamping on the passport when the yatra crosses through its borders to China. 

Safety issues are a priority for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Since the government route is longer and involves extra days and physical effort, there is a strict medical procedure done before one is allowed to go. In fact, a pilgrim can be sent back from any point during the Kailash Yatra if a medical condition arises.

However, if you are going by the Nepal route, then the private tour operator follows the acclimatization procedure and plans the Manasarovar Yatra accordingly so that pilgrims get adjusted to the high altitudes. A good part of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra gets done by helicopter and that further minimizes the medical risks.

In 2017, China refused the entry of 47 Indian pilgrims to the area who wanted to travel through the Nathu-la pass in Sikkim. The inclement weather and the bad road conditions were the reasons given for the denial of entry. As the trek is not an easy one, the safety and security of the pilgrims should be the first priority for government officials on both sides. Thousands of pilgrims brave the mountainous terrain every year to offer their respects to the heavenly abode of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati and get blessings in return.

But Priya tells you if you keep moving, you won't. You admire her optimism. You have come to this place for the fourth time. Conclusion, you two are lost. It is already four o'clock. Three hours left until the sun starts to go down. Priya wants to find a refuge. But for that you need an overview of the place. You two decide to go back to the place with the beautiful view. There you see the volcano again. It is better to go there than to stay in the jungle. You are going to try to find a stream. You two can do this. Priya and you find some monkey. Priya thinks you two should follow them. Maybe they have some food. You agree to go. But at the slightest side of danger, you go back. The monkeys have found some fruit. But there are very large bees nearby. The bees haven't noticed you yet. You two give it a shot. You choose the lychess looking fruit. Priya and you get some fruit and walk safely away. Priya starts to get tired, but you keep her motivated, She finds a waterfall, there you two take a little break. Then you find your way to the volcano. The day was little rainy. 🌦 My family members decided to visit the kempty waterfall situated in Mussoorie in Uttrakhand ( India).

One of my siblings one who asked me to join in boating. I am very excited 🤗 and replied " Yes " .

All we got ready and search those things which was needed for boating. We carried water bottles, boating jacket etc.

Mussoorie is the most visited hill station in Uttrakhand. The weather of Mussoorie attracts tourists not only from India but all around the world. The mystic air and serene coolness of the place make it the loveliest hill station of Uttrakhand . It is also famous for destination wedding.

There are several ways to reach Mussoorie. It is only 30 km from Dehradun. Being the capital of Uttrakhand, Dehradun is well connected by trains, airways and roads. I went to Mussoorie with my family.

There is no direct bus or train to reach Mussoorie. Hiring one private cab from Haridwar, Uttrakhand for Rs 5,000.

HOW LONG TO VISIT MUSSOORIE

Mussoorie is a small hill station so it takes only 2 days to cover the major sights of the place. I suggest 2-3 days are enough to roam around Mussoorie. You could spend more time to do some adventurous activities which can take your whole day.

I will guide you with the five best place to visit in two days. There are many more good places but I consider the best if you are visiting only for 2 days. These places would definitely take your heart away with their stupendous views.

Kempty waterfall and Ropeway

It is a perfect picnic spot for enjoying a gala time. It has milky streams of water falling from 41ft . There are a lot of stairs which lead to the actual spot where the water collects.

The water is extremely cold and can give you chills. Besides it a number of shops are available to provide you swimming clothes, floaters and can safely keep your valuables at lockers for a nominal charge. Nearby to it, there is a ropeway to explore the panorma view of Dehradun- Mussoorie trail and enjoy the elevated lush green Mountains, valleys and terrains. It costs Rs 80/person for such a beautiful ride.

CLOUD'S END

As the name suggest, clouds End is the geographical end of Mussoorie hill station. It is at a distance of 6 km from Mussoorie Mall Road and you can reach there by a local taxi available. It is a peaceful small trek with the breathtaking views of Aglar River Valley. During monsoon, it is often covered with clouds and fog. You can actually feel the picturesque clouds End.
